Okay, I get to introduce myself as that one Guy.  Growing up with the name Guy has allowed for me to hear just about every “Guy” joke in the book.  Like “Hey, you’re that one Guy that…” Or, “Is there any Guys here?”   I do play the guitar and my brother-in-law, Earl, also plays a smattering of other instruments.  When we were both in college we thought we would start a band called “Some Guy named Earl”.   We thought we were clever.  Now I have a new dumb joke to add to the repertoire, “I’m the blogger Guy”.

I grew up in Pocatello Idaho working on a farm with my grandfather and playing sports from football, baseball, track and even a few years of amateur boxing.  My parents divorced when I was a little guy (there is another dumb Guy joke) and I spent some time in Albuquerque, New Mexico with my mom.  My five years in Albuquerque allowed for me to experience diversity in race and culture

I have not always been a Mormon.  During my childhood and youth years I attended many different churches and was at one point baptized in a southern Baptist congregation in Albuquerque.  I have always had a close relationship with my Savior regardless of what church I belonged to. At the tail end of my high school senior year I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormons) and quickly served a mission in northeast England.

It was on my mission that I fell in love with scriptures.  Much of what I write about comes from years of a passionate study in the word of God.  I work professionally as an LDS seminary instructor.  I spend every day with teenagers going through hard things and helping them see relevance in holy writ.   I count it as a great blessing in my life to see the “aha moments” when a student sees a truth packaged for application just for them!

I am married to an amazing woman.  I call her Erin (’cause that is her name).  She is an educator as well.  She is smart, confident, beautiful, and has a sense of humor that keeps me balanced.  She also loves football so that is a huge plus!  Our twins Seth and Savannah are amazing teens!  They are in my class and I never want it to end!  They are both drama nerds participating in the school musicals and have absurd talent.  I’m a proud papa.  We also have chickens to add to the family.

I enjoy good food, outdoors, fishing, hiking, sporting events, board games, working in our yard, coaching soccer, movies, service and learning.  I have served as a Mormon Bishop which greatly impacted my view on love and service. I am currently working on a doctorate degree at the University of Utah in educational leadership. Call me crazy but I love higher education and expanding my knowledge and capacity.

These are the things that guide what I write about.  I believe that God has a purpose for each of our lives.  I believe that we are meant to spread and multiply goodness.  I believe He wants us to take care of each other.  I also believe that He wants us to develop as many skills and talents possible so that we can be used for His purposes.

I just heard a new favorite quote that sums up just about everything in my life,

God gave us these mountains to prove to ourselves that we can move them!

Guy has heard just about every "Guy joke", like "Hey, it's that one Guy." or "You must be the only Guy here." Now he can add a new joke "You are that blogger Guy." Guy is an Idaho boy. Born in Pocatello Idaho, he grew up working on a farm with his grandfather just outside of the "big city". While working on the farm Guy learned lessons of work, integrity, faith, discipline and how to drive a tractor while singing a few country songs. Guy graduated from Idaho State University in sociology with a minor in political science and knew that he wanted to work in a service field. Later, receiving a Master's Degree from the University of Utah in education, Guy has been passionate about Education. Guy also developed a great love for an in depth study of the scriptures, especially scriptures that open understanding of our Savior Jesus Christ. Guy counts it a great blessing to be able to help youth and adults discover truths in the scriptures that bring happiness and hope. Guys greatest blessing is his sweet wife and their two children that teach him great lessons of discipleship. Guy hopes to be known as one who lives a simple life of multiplying goodness.
