I don’t know how things are going for you so far this year, but for me, it’s been a little crazy. All my grand, well-thought out plans to start the year with intention and organization have been challenged repeatedly with (seemingly) urgent issues and situations, and I’ve been a little discouraged. Why can’t I get the good things that are important to me done?

On one hand, I know that when I have a lot of opposition to doing something, it usually means that I’m on the right track. While there is some comfort in that thought, it doesn’t help me come up with actionable steps to make the good things happen.

As with so many things in my life, the solution to my issue came the other day in the lyrics of a song:

Pushed and pulled by a thousand expectations
And all the roles that I’m supposed to play
To hit the ground, running’s a temptation
But I have learned this lesson the hard way
A little time with You, the only way to get me through the day

Oh, come meet me in this moment
Before it all gets going
These plates start to spin
When the crazy kicks in
A circus of distractions
It’s just about to happen
I’ll be ready when
When the crazy kicks in

– Francesca Battistelli

Time with the Lord. With the scriptures. BEFORE the crazy kicks in. Then, I’ll be ready when it does. (Because we know it will!)

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28
